BCGA Zone 1 East 2016 Yearly Review

The amateur qualifier for the Provincial Amateur was held at Wildstone GC in the spring with 5 players going on to represent the East Zone 1. Scott Merriam from Cranbrook GC had a great result finishing tied for 11, one spot out of qualifying automatically for the 2017 Amateur….well done Scott.

The quality for the BCGA Seniors was held at Kimberley GC and  Bootleg Gap GC. This was held in conjunction with the East Kootenay Senior (which was revived after a year absence). Out of a field of 51 a team of four was selected.

The Junior program ran 4 events in 2017, Fernie GC, Cranbrook GC, Kimberley GC and final at Trickle Creek GC ( first time for a zone event…thanks Trickle Creek). Over 32 junior players were involved, with a team of four proceeding to the provincial final.

We have also completed the the implementation of a Facebook account for juniors golf on the area….East Kootenay Junior Boys Golf….Which will have all the information about events and result post to it.

The web site … BCGAZONE1E.com …. Is now up and running.
The information and results for all the Zone events will be available on the site. (Special thanks to Kootenay Computer for their involvement)

The committee has taken on a new project for 2017 to promote golf for juniors with in the area. We purchased two Snag large group coaching kits with sticky suit and manuals. We are teaming up with Jodi Hawley, Sports Excellence Coordinator for Pacificsport Columbia Basin (they are supplying a third kit) and a number of golf professionals in the valley to start a school golf program in the new year. These will also be used for the Pacificsport’s SOAR program to promote a number of sports in schools.
